This month blog has nothing to do with the Liquid Motors software platform it is simply useful information that smaller dealers or independent dealers may find extremely valuable. I hope this blog gives you some tools you did not have before. Many of you know our goal is simple at Liquid Motors: Help a dealer be better today than they were yesterday!

Google Voice! That is right; Google voice now allows you numerous custom options to control incoming calls to your dealership. In its simplest form you can get a Google voice number for your dealership use it in your marketing efforts and have the ability to control which phones ring at on your end based on the time of the call or who is calling.

Let me break down a few uses of this:

Sales Professionals – I can set my Google number to ring my office line and my cell phone on incoming calls so I never miss a call. Then after hours have it only ring my cell phone. Then if the sales person leaves I can forward that Google voice number to a new sales person.

Dealership – Incoming calls can be set to ring all sales people’s cell phones or desk phones and can be controlled when someone is off that day.

Basically this is a phone number that is tied to YOU the dealership and gives you some management ability including Voicemail. Best of all you can pick the number so be creative with it if possible.

Some info from Google:
Google Voice gives you one number for all your phones — a phone number that is tied to you, not to a device or a location. Use Google Voice to simplify the way you use phones, make using voicemail as easy as email, customize your callers’ experience, and more.
Google Voice isn’t a phone service, but it lets you manage all of your phones. Google Voice works with mobile phones, desk phones, work phones, and VoIP lines. There’s nothing to download, upload, or install, and you don’t have to make or take calls using a computer.
Google Voice will let you define which phones ring, based on who’s calling, and even let you ListenInTM on voicemail before answering the call. We use smart technology to route your calls. So, if you’re already on a Google Voice call, we’ll recognize it and use call waiting to reach you on the phone you’re on.

Here is the different type of Google voice accounts available.

In case you didn’t know, April is National Car Care Month, a nationwide effort that focuses on the importance of regular vehicle care, maintenance and repair. This awareness month helps drivers understand the benefits and importance of car care for safer roads, cleaner air, energy conservation, and consumer savings.
What a perfect opportunity for you and your dealership to do something nice for your customers and community……with the added benefit of maintaining and building customer loyalty for you! Take the time necessary to help your customers understand how certain repairs can add to their vehicle’s life, improve gas mileage and eliminate future, more expensive repairs.

Focus on one day, or celebrate all month. Draw a crowd by grilling hotdogs and burgers, provide ice cream and goodies. A bounce house will be sure to get you noticed and will keep kids occupied while their parents learn more about what you have to offer. Promote preventive maintenance by offering discounted oil changes with free multi-point inspections. Host free Safety Seat Inspections or have staff teach a “How to Perform Your Own Vehicle Safety Check” class. Offer free car washes with every service performed in the month of April. The ideas and opportunities are endless!

For more tips and ideas to make April a successful month, visit www.carcare.org. Please let us know how you and your dealership plan to recognize National Car Care Month!

On a daily basis I look at all my dealers websites. Whether it be a website that we host, or that is hosted by another vendor, I can expect one thing to remain the same the majority of the time. Yes, I go to a dealers website and chances are, it has not been updated. My job as an Account Manager is to monitor my dealers websites on a monthly basis and make sure they are updating their slides on the homepage, the service coupons are active and current, the staff pages are up to date etc. Some of my dealers are great! They email me weekly with new incentives, new slides, coupons, staff page changes and I get so excited to see all of the new changes! Then there are a few others, those that it’s like pulling teeth to even get the price of a basic oil change. Potential customers want to see up-to-date websites with current information, current offers, non-expired coupons – it really does make a difference. So please make sure you are reviewing your website on a monthly basis to make sure it is up to par!

Most of you will probably have no idea as to what I am talking about when I utter the phrase “Gilt Groupe?”. Anyone? Anyone? Gilt is similar to Zulily, again any man know what I am talking about? Both sites are similar in the sense that you must be a member, membership is free, they send daily offers discounted up to 50% (or more sometimes), and you basically have a certain amount of time to purchase before the offer is no longer valid. Maybe I should have said Groupon or Living Social and a light would have gone off for most. Similar to those sites, but a little more “high line”, especially Gilt. I received my daily Gilt email yesterday and something immediately caught my eye. I have never seen anything like it before! Infiniti is offering their brand new, never been on the road, absolutely gorgeous, 2013 Infiniti JX for HALF OFF if you are a Gilt member. Of course there are rules and regulations and the main one is that you must put down a $5,000 deposit at the time of purchase, however the money will be refunded at the time of purchase, so all-in-all, not a bad deal! Better yet, the MSRP is $54,850 and with the Gilt offer you will pay only $27,425 and Gilt will donate the full retail price of the JX to Coaches vs. Cancer. So you not only get a beautiful car at an amazing price but you are also donating to a great cause! Now…(insert deep sigh here)… if only I could persuade my husband into buying me that car!

I was trying to come up with a brilliant blog, and in my search of a topic to write about I came across this article, “It Drives Me Crazy! A Short Screed On The Stupidity Of Car Salesmen” by Becky Quick, that was recently printed in Fortune Magazine. After reading the article, I felt like I was transported back a decade or two. It goes to show that no matter how much we think the car business has changed, we are reminded, thanks here to Becky Quick, that maybe it hasn’t changed all that much. Although frustrated by salesmen at 5 different dealerships, Miss Quick still returned to purchase a vehicle from one of them due to the time crunch with her baby arriving soon and simply being “tired of shopping around”. So ultimately, the salesman got the sale and the dealership can continue to treat women poorly with the knowledge they will continue to get sales. Two steps forward three steps back. So what are the sales practices at your dealership?

Have you ever written a blog or read one and thought, “What is that, I will never use that information!” Well, I think my blog on Facebook rankings may have been one of those, it was a little ahead of it’s time for our industry. Here is some great information and I hope it makes a difference in your efforts. Facebook fan pages are a great marketing tool for any business – if used properly. We all know most people become fans of your business on FB because they are looking for special deals or content they can’t get without extensive research, such as recalls or new rebates. So once you build your fan base, how do you stay engaged with them?

Have you ever wondered why certain company’s or people’s post always shows up on your FB page, while others you just never see? This is not by accident; there is a formula that RANKS each post.

At the highest level of this algorithm it is very simple, every item that shows up in your news feed is considered an Object and all Objects are ranked.

Here is the formula:

Affinity * Weight * Time Decay = Rank

Definitions:

Affinity = score between viewing user and content creator
• First, there’s an affinity score between the viewing user and the item’s creator — if you send your friend a lot of Facebook messages and check their profile often, then you’ll have a higher affinity score for that user than you would, say, for an old acquaintance you haven’t interacted with in years.
Weight = create, comment, like, tag, etc…volume
• Second, there’s a weight given to each type of Object. A comment has more importance than a Like, for example.
Time Decay = how long ago the content was created
• And finally there’s the most obvious factor — time. The older an Object is, the less important it becomes.
STOP! I know what you’re thinking, and no, you don’t have to do all the manual calculations yourself to determine if you are doing a good job. Tools have already been created for you to check the Rank of your Facebook fan page. Follow these steps:

1. Go to your Facebook account and click “Insights” (on the far left), then export the insights data as CSV and download to your computer. NOTE: You must be the admin of your FB page to export this data.

2. Visit www.edgerankchecker.com and follow the instructions.

Now that you have your score, see how you stack up:
0-3 is below average
4-7 is average
7+ is above average
And scores above 20 (such as Coca Cola and Pringles) are excellent!

So how do you improve your post ranking?

This is the part that is very simple. What do YOU like to see as a consumer when you visit posts or pages?

• Post content that attracts interaction
o Ask questions that will encourage a response
• Ask people to “Like” your content, and do the same for them
• Use media as much as possible in your post. Video and Pictures =WIN!

Another way to improve your ranking is to eliminate some of your “dead fans”, fans who are in a different country or Spam Fans that you know will never comment and are not even close to your area. This will help: # of Fans / # of interactions = Affinity weight.

I wish you all great success with your FB and Social Media efforts. If you have any questions or want to improve your Social Media efforts, don’t hesitate to leave a comment or call me. In addition, if you need custom FB applications to market your vehicles, parts and service, or need to monitor your reputation, Liquid Motors can help.
